Conduits of Change in the Public Sector

Leveraging Technology for Organic Change

How do we establish a conduit to effective mass change? How do we offer value in our everyday services anytime, anywhere, timely and accurately? How can we organically and efficiently implement, scale, replicate and sustain access to change?

During a recent vacation, (yes, my vacationJ) I had the opportunity to peek as a guest on few workshops at the MLearnCon in San Diego. There, I had the chance to learn (among other interesting information) about the impact of accessibility to change and how we can leverage what we already have, to move forward in the current world.

After that experience and other experiences that I had the opportunity to experience while researching and introducing business process improvement in my own private sector business, as well as in my current state appointment; paired with this agent of change training forums, I came to understand that the concept and vision for development & implementation of change in the new millennia is not new. However, we need to be able to transcend across the board withinÔÇöwork cultures, birth cultures, generational cultures etc. and understand the importance of integration of new technologies as they evolve. ┬áNone of this is new, what is new, is how to promote, replicate and establish organic change.

So, what if we leverage what we already have, that already promotes change, organically?

We already have the tools to collaborate and apply information and processes that can add value, we live in an era that we can envision-what is it that we can do, with what we have - and what we already do.

Have you ever started wearing a color, or kind of clothing, use the latest coined cool word to express something like "rad' or "google it"... have you ever look for and started watching a popular TV series that your circle is watching? You do all of these, not because somebody told you so, you do it because the world around you used your access points, to introduce it to you ((organically)). Think about it

A-HA!

What if we  leverage the technology that what we already have to replicate changes and positive initiatives in the public sector... organically!

DID YOU KNOW THAT BY THE END OF THIS DECADE,

THERE WILL BE MORE MOBILE DEVICES

ON EARTH, THAN PEOPLE?

The future of our vision for sustainable change including the tools for training and learning (the roots for change), has to do, with leveraging access points already used by the masses. The staff at our public sector offices is part of these masses, and movement for change has to get paired with the technology and trends of today and tomorrow. Moreover, we must be aware of, and consider Mobile learning (ML) and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) AKA: mobile devices, as well as, social media (SM) and apps (APP) to introduce, facilitate, and keep up change.

The latest statistics show that ML, BOYD, SM, and APP are today's access points, already dominating some very important service sectors, like commerce, (people paying with their smart phone) and other services like training institutions (using your i-pad to attend a webinar), therefore change within the government had to be paired with all of the above.

┬áI invite you to challenge the process, and ask the why, and the why not, ┬áby making sure all your visions are followed by actions that leverage and integrate initiatives that ÔÇ£translateÔÇØ and are responsive to all modern access points.

At the State of California, innovation has to mirror the private sector, change will not happen if we donÔÇÖt consider not only our internal clients, but embrace the needs (client centered design) of all our stakeholders. Moreover, it is clear that many stakeholders are more and more comfortable with ML, BOYD, SM, and APP, they already have these resources in their everyday lives, and therefore we must leverage these existent resources and plan our moonshots accordingly to organically introduce change across the board.

I realize, we are not a 100% ML, BOYD, SM, and APP culture quite yet, then again, no business or service has survived in the private sector without these changes. Then, what makes us think that the public sector will survive without being able to serve people when and where they want to be served? Moving along our visions by leveraging technology will help us understand, develop, and design the changes that cater to all our current and future, internal and external clients.

If we integrate to our visions the ability to leverage what we already have, but differently, we can eventually establish a conduit to effective mass public sector change, and as a result, offer constant value in our everyday services ÔÇôanytime, anywhere, timely, accurately, and organically.

What do you think?
